Hello,

I am looking for the birth record for Marith Pedersdatter to find her parents, date of birth, and baptism date. The only information I have is her marriage record to Jonas Jonsen and the birth records for three of their children.

I did have a genealogist at The Norwegian Emigration Center (Stavanger) look at this once before, but they could not find Marith's birth record.

Leermarken is a crofter’s place under the main farm Leeren (now Leiren) in Strinda. Norwegian Emigration Center was unsure if Leermarken was Marith's or her first husband’s home.

At the baptism of their first son Erich, there was a god-mother names Siri Pedersdatter. Siri might be a sister of Marith. This Siri is probably the same as registered in the 1801 census on the farm Blekkan, Strinda as a 32 years old worker. The Norwegian Emigration Center also looked for Marith's first marriage, and the death of her first husband. They could not find those records.

I could not find Marith Pedersdatter in the 1801 census on any farm in Strinda. Any assitance or guidance you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

I'm afraid I can't help you much; just some suggestions re the children and their names.

1. Erich : A strong indication that Marit Pedersdatter's 1st husband was an "Erich". Naming the first child of same sex after a deceased husband or wife had often priority over naming them after grandparents. In this case renaming the dead Erich probably had priority over naming the boy after the grandfathers Jon and Peder.

3. Petronella, therefore, might be the name of Marit Pedersdatter's mother. If so, her parents are Peder and Petronella. But where ?

There are many possiblities when trying "Family Search". Jonas Jonsen was born approx. 1783, and Marit Pedersdatter could hardly have been born earlier than 1765-70, probably nearer to the age of Jonas, i e around 1780. A couple of "Marit Pedersdatter" married an "Erich" around 1800 at Klæbu, neighbouring parish to Strinda. This is as far as I have tried to search.

The estate of Erik Widriksen, deceased ( not sure about the "W" ) was settled 27th of May 1805. Erik Widriksen died 4th December, 1804. The name of the widow is Marit Pedersdatter, and they lived at the place ( husmannsplass ) "Rygen" under the farm Leeren at Strinda.

I think this may be the Erik and Marit we were looking for. The writing is difficult, at least for me, some expert might rather take a look. For instance, are any children mentioned ? Why did Marit remarry so fast, was any extraordinary permit granted ?

It is actually Vidrichsen, a very uncommon name. Erik and Marit lived at Rønningen, Melhus, near Trondheim, Marit was born approx. 1778, Erik 1776, and they had 2 daughters as per 1801: Eli and Marit :

Conferring the link from Rønningen 1801 census; The chances are that ELI SEJERSDTR. is the grandmother of ELI ERIKSDTR., and consequently Eli Sejersdtr. is Marit Pedersdtr.s mother, and Isaach Pedersen is Marit's brother. ( Names appearing shortly prior to Erik and Marit ).

I’m no descendant of Eli Sejersdtr. Ancestors of my husband was living at Rønningen
and my great great grandfather and his siblings were born at Leermarken, two aunts and uncles are living there in 1801.
