A "moster" is the mother's sister.
They are both a "tante" = aunt |

You may have browsed the wrong dictionary! I don't know if the words have their origin in Sweden, but at least they are in common use there.

| No, there is no link to Sweden in those words. Faster and moster, the male equivalents being farbror and morbror, were commonly used words in Norway a couple of generations ago. Those words are still used in some places in Norway even today. |
